Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician III for the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center located in Anna, Illinois to provide physical support with personal care services to individuals on an assigned shift, on an assigned unit. Conducts individual and group programs. Verifies individual safety and protection through monitoring and supervision. Teaches and directs individuals in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and secure environment. Serves in an advanced worker capacity providing assistance to lower-level staff on complex problems. Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements when performing duties. Functions as shift charge in the absence of higher-level Mental Health Technicians. Travels in performance of job duties.

Essential Functions

  • Provides physical support with personal care services to individuals on an assigned shift on an assigned unit.
  • Conducts individual and group programs.
  • Verifies individual safety and protection through monitoring and supervision.
  • Teaches and directs individuals in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and secure environment.
  • Attends and completes scheduled training as by Department of Human Services (DHS), the center and the programmatic unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of an approved training program and one (1) year experience in, or applicable to the care, treatment, and development of individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities. 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Requires the ability to perform heavy lifting, carrying, and pushing of wheelchairs and to lift, turn and reposition individuals.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties. 
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
